Noel Gallagher: “It’s About The Songs, Songs Last Forever. You Can Have That Lyric.”

Noel Gallagher was so happy to be at the Ivor Novellos rather than across town at the Wembley shindig.

The former Oasis star won the Outstanding Song Collection gong at yesterday’s ceremony.

Asked why he liked being at the awards, which took place at the Grovesnor hotel, he said: “There aren’t any clowns like One Direction here.

“It’s not about what clothes you wear or how nimble you are or who you are s******g.

“It’s about the songs. Songs last forever. You can have that lyric.”

And having won one of the biggest gongs of the afternoon Noel vowed he would never be a songwriter for hire.

He dedicated his prize to wife Sara, saying: “When we bought a house in London I told my wife I wanted to convert the garage to a creative space. She said, ‘What for?’ I said, ‘To write songs.’ She said, ‘I’ve never seen you write a song.’ So this is for her.”
